Mother's Day is this weekend and we thought it would be great to interview our moms! Anyone who knows me knows how close my mother and I are, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't be the woman I am today if it wasn't for her grace, wisdom, patience, and love. Read her answers to a few questions that I asked her!
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Sayo Awosika-Olumo and I am a mother to my three children named Soyo, Dayo, and Demi. I am a Clinical Researcher in the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine.
How would you describe motherhood in three words?
Fulfilling, loving/gratifying, and demanding.
What is your favorite memory of me growing up?
You've always been a leader and I've loved watching you lead different things. One of my favorite moments in particular was when we lived in Ohio and you would gather your cousins and brother to perform plays for everyone's entertainment.
What is one thing that I've done that has made you the proudest?
Being a go-getter and watching you navigating the school system in America. You recognized that your father and I didn't do undergrad in the United States and took it upon yourself to do everything making it a lot less stressful for us.
How do you feel about #MacScientist?
I think it's a great platform for motivation and sharing ideas. It's encouraging to others to be confident and motivated in what they are trying to accomplish. It's also educational as you provide real-life examples that can be applied to people's lives.
What's something that you hope that you have instilled in me?
Being disciplined and responsible. As the first born, like me, you set the pace for your younger siblings. It's important that you set a good example for them because that determines what their outcome could potentially be. To be disciplined is showing that when you want something, you go for it and don't beat around the bush, and to be responsible is staying focused and doing all you can to work towards the goals that you have set.
Thanks for letting me feature you Mom! Happy Mother’s day to all the mom’s out there. We couldn’t be here without you!
