Life is such a balancing act and we should all strive to live it to the fullest. However, it can be exhausting. When I was in school I was trying to make sure I ate regularly, got a decent night's sleep, and tried to maintain a social life all while trying to pursue my engineering degree.
Now that I'm out of school, I'm working. And while I don't have school stress, I still find myself constantly on the go and finding new things to stress about. It's so easy to get consumed with work; you can easily just go through the motions while not really living in the moment. I wouldn't say I've mastered the art of balance, but here are a few of my tips to living a more balanced life.
Find quantitative checkpoints that can psyche you into thinking you have your life together.
There's a few things I do routinely that allows me to think that things are mostly in order. For me, it needs to be things that I can actually see because I get caught in my head way to often.
Call your friends and family!
I can't stress this enough. Communication is essential in maintaining and fostering relationships. Your friends and family care about you and frequent check-ins will lift your spirits and keep you going.
Plan and Budget.
Plan a trip. Plan your week. Plan your day. Plan your night. Having plans can give you something to look forward to and you can reorganize your life and finances to make those things happen. Setting a budget gives you a sense of realism for what you can afford to do and if you're able to stick to it, you have fostered a sense of self control that can be empowering.
I hope some of these tips help for those in whatever stage of life you're in. If you have any tips you'd like to share, please feel free to leave a comment!
