Hey Everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the last few moments of summer. I have been swamped lately! I'm truly not ready for the semester to start AT ALL. But anyway, this week we wanted to talk about how we define the things in life that are important to us. For me, I have some criteria/questions I ask myself to determine what's important/what I value and what's not.
Does it motivate me?
First things first, I'm not necessarily motivated by things. I've always been the type of person that's motivated by feelings and by people. Don't get me wrong, I do love a material reward every now and then like the next person, but I don't do things based off what I can physically get from them. I'm intrinsically motivated. I'm more likely to do something that I want to do and not something someone tells me to do. The things that are most important to me are things that motivate me to be a better person.
Does it bring me joy?
I'm at the point in my life where I don't do anything that doesn't make me happy, well I'm trying not to at least. Some things you can't get out of, that's life, but overall when it comes to my career, relationships, personal goals, etc. I'm only engaging in things that bring me inherent joy. I realized that wasting my time doing things out of pure obligation without an ounce of enjoyment wasn't good for me. For things like that I also don't perform to the best of my abilities (refer back to my source of motivation).
Does it help me grow?
The one thing that you can count on in life is growth. Whether you like it or not, you're going to be faced with situations and people that are going to be lessons and/or blessings. I'm trying to be intentional this year not shying away from those experiences. Growth isn't linear either. Sometimes you're on a high, other times you're on a low, but that's okay because you're in a constant state of evolving. Things that help me grow into the woman I want to/am meant to be are the things/people I'm trying to surround myself with.
Those are the main questions I ask myself when it comes to what I value. What about you? Tweet me some responses!
See you next week!
