The Engineer: 2019 Life Update

Hello Everyone! Hope you're having a great week so far. It's finally warm and sunny in NYC so I'm really excited for all the activities that will be happening as summer begins. This week, we're giving you guys a life update. It's been almost a year since we've given you all our last update, so I am excited to fill you all in on what's going on!

Goals.

At the beginning of this year, I talked about my goals for 2019. Although my goals have slightly shifted since I wrote that blog post, I can 100% say I am really being intentional in all three focus areas:

Professionally, I am now clear on what I want and how I want myself to grow as an engineering professional. I've been blessed to have such an amazing support group through /dev/color which has really helped in terms of making different decisions. I've made some changes that I can't speak on just yet, but I am excited for what's to come.

From a financial perspective, I have hit a couple setbacks in terms of saving and budgeting, but I also paid off one of my student loans so I am headed towards the direction of paying down half my debts by the end of 2019!

In my personal life I have also become more intentional in terms of saying no to certain projects that I didn't feel aligned with my goals. I've completed my UX design course, secured my first design client, and built my design portfolio. I've created a more organized way to tackle my goals for 2019, and I am excited to see what all I can accomplish for the rest of the year. I've also gotten the opportunity to speak at a conference, a meet up group, and will be speaking at another conference in San Francisco! My goal this year was to give one technical talk and the fact that I was able to give three is amazing!

Travel

Your girl is still traveling all over the place! For my birthday in February, I went to Spain and Morocco, I went to Columbus and Vancouver for a couple weddings, I went to San Diego with my cousins in May, and this summer I will be going to Barbados, Mexico, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Chicago! I enjoy traveling so much and being able to see and explore new places is truly such a blessing in my life. Like I said one of the ways to create work-life balance is to go on vacation and I will be doing just that!

What's going on in your life? Would you like us to do these life updates more regularly? Let us know! -The Engineer
