I can't believe it's already the end of February. This year is really going to go by quick! If you've set any goals for this year, make sure you check-in with yourself to make sure you're on track to completing them by the end of the year.
As you know, February is Black History Month and the MacScientist team decided that we had to dedicate a post to a black women who was doing amazing things within the STEM field. For this post, I decided to write about Korin Reid.
Korin Reid is a Senior Data Scientist at McKeeson Health Solutions Corporation in Atlanta, Georgia. She got her Bachelor's degree from University of Iowa and her PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Georgia Technical Institute. During her time at Georgia Tech she focused on renewable energy with cellulosic biomass. After earning her PhD, she entered the world of data scientist where she uses predictive modeling and machine learning techniques on billions of health care records in efforts to improve the quality of health care delivery impacting over 160 million people.
What makes her even more incredible is that she was listed as 2017 Forbes 30 under 30 in Science, an accomplishment that less than 4% of the people considered are actually awarded that title. She describes herself as "33% Chemical Engineer, 33% Data Scientist, 33% Wordsmith and 100% awesome." When she's not making large impacts in the health care industry she enjoys watching sports, cooking, music, crafts, and writing. She also works with children to educate them about careers in STEM.
Her career thus far is remarkable and she continues to inspire other in whatever capacity she can.
