Hi! So I have been out of college and working full time for a little bit over a year now and it has been a long but good year. I've met hundreds of new people and learned tons of new things both technically and about myself. As a result, this post is dedicated for me to share some of the things I've learned on the job.
Advocate for yourself.
No one is really going to stick up for your career besides you. You have you to outline your goals and make sure you make that known to people who can help you achieve your goals. When I first started on my original team, I knew that the team I was on wasn't a place where I could feel fulfilled. I made sure I made that known and began seeking other opportunities at my company where I could see myself learning and growing.
Look for new challenges.
If you're not being challenged, you're not learning. If you're not learning, you're not growing. Being so young in my career, I know that there's so much that I have yet to learn and if I'm not learning anything, I need to do something else. Every time I get a new project at work, I almost panic a little because I'm thinking "wow, I have no idea how to do this." However, I start working on the project and I realize that I really CAN actually do this and I end up learning a lot. Looking for opportunities to learn something new keeps things interesting and often makes things more exciting at work.
This past year of employment has been quite a ride. I'm so thankful for the opportunities that I've had and am looking forward to the opportunities that may come my way in the future. I can't wait to see what's in store for next year!
