This week's post is focused on Macademics. So I want to educate you all on some of the work I do in IT Infrastructure & Security, by providing some insight into one of the technologies I've been working very closely with: Azure.
For those who may not know, implementing cloud computing is one of the largest growing initiatives in IT, especially for enterprises. Most people are familiar with Amazon's cloud platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), but in recent years, Microsoft's cloud platform, Azure, has begun to make waves with many Fortune 500 and 100 companies. Being that my company, Avanade, is partially owned by Microsoft, I have access to and work on projects using pretty much every Microsoft technology. One of our hot technologies has been Azure, so many of our projects are cloud focused. Most recently I've been working as an Azure Architect, and a Cloud & Azure Security Architect, for the second largest divestiture in history. It has been a great learning experience for me, and I've quickly developed my knowledge and skills around cloud computing, the Azure platform, and cloud security.
So today I want to share some interesting facts about Azure, just to get you all started... and hopefully it spark some interests!
1. Azure can be used to implement Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
2. Azure has a free and paid tiers, and runs on a Pay-as-you-use system, saving users money.
3. Azure has its own marketplace, which is an online store that offers applications and services either built on or designed to integrate with Microsoft's Azure public cloud.
4. Security and privacy are built into the Azure platform.
5. Azure is the only consistent hybrid cloud, has more regions than any other cloud provider, delivers unparalleled developer productivity, and offers more comprehensive compliance coverage—including meeting the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Azure is extremely powerful, and is so dynamic to the point that it's functionality literally changes almost everyday. Sometimes it can be a challenge to keep up with something so dynamic, but it can also be fun... learning something new each day about an already interesting topic.
Some of you may be interested in technology, or may not know what your interests are just yet. I'd encourage you all to look into different growing technologies, like Azure, because no matter the field you end up in, there's always some technology there!
